How to assess
When I want to explain the green plant lesson to my grade two students, first I want them to master the knowledge that green plants need water, air and sunlight to grow up and live. When I am pretty sure that they have mastered the knowledge, I will start practicing the reasoning with them. So I can for example give them a question made of two cases, case A where all the needs of the plant are present and the plant will live and grow up, and case B where one of the needs are absent, deprived from water for example and of course it won’t live. Then I ask them why the plant lived in case A but didn’t in case B, and so on so far.
When I have practiced the reasoning enough with my students, then I can give them a reasoning question but I should leave them alone at assessment time to see if they can combine the two successfully (knowledge + reasoning), because if I help them also during the assessment, then I won’t be able to know what do they have learned and what are they able to do alone, and then the result of the assignment will mean nothing since I am not tracking the target.
Personal Communication
Personal communication is usually an informal assessment that I can use it to find out what students have learned and understood through interacting with them orally, or interviewing them. So instead of doing a written assessment every day to know what students learned the day before through a written assessment , I can use the personal communication and I can have almost the same results.
Of course to use this method of assessing I should first determine the target I want to assess because this method is better to be used to assess the reasoning target, so for example, after explaining the lesson of the green plant to grade two students and what does a green plant need to grow up, I can show the student a picture of a plant deprived from sunlight, and then I can ask him orally to tell me what will happen to this plant and why, and then I can see if I reach the reasoning target that I want and expect from my students.
Behavior is Communication
Always keep in mind that in order to control an unexpected behavior of our students we should not settle for seeing only the behavior or misbehavior, but to go deeply to see what caused this behavior and how we can help the child in order to reduce the stressors, then the misbehaviors. Because if we don't know the reason of a behavior, we will not be able to control the behavior, so it will be repeated. This is how we can keep a good relationship with others and especially our students, otherwise we will smash this relation, and that is why behavior is communication.
Choose your Philosophy
As teaching is more than just helping students acquiring knowledge, teachers should be aware of the nature of education and of the problems that he or she might encounter during teaching to reflect on them and find solutions, teachers should also be aware of the aims of education to organize their suitable plan for teaching. In addition, teachers should not take the old aspects of teaching and leave the new ones, or the opposite, however, they must use both traditional and modern schools in a way that makes students learn better, and to enhance their role in the classroom, community, as well as in the society by being good citizens.
All of the above can be done when I, as a teacher or future teacher, build good relationships with my students full of respect and trust, and when I closely observe my students to know them well, know what they think and what is in their minds. In addition, I must show my students that I am loyal to the discipline I am teaching since I have to be a perfect model to them. All of this makes my students more motivated to be active and constructive students not only inside the classroom, but in their environment and society. To sum up, I want to have the knowledge and wisdom in my teachings to make students meet their needs of knowledge, achievement, values, moralsa nd beauty in order to make a change in their lives.
Don't Give up!
I have always been thinking about the day that I will start a job that I love, and that job was always Teaching. I am really a shy kind of person that I I hesitate and feel uncomfortable to talk in public places, even in my classes at university, and I really panic durind presentations. So I started thinking about how can I teach a large number of students if I don't have the ability to talk in front my classmates? And how can I teach students if everytime I have a presentation I do panic? But I have never thought about changing my major or my job. I decided to try. I went to school , and taught my students that they taught me to be stronger. That was really very challenging to me but now I have reached my goal and I am so happy to learn from my students who are learning from me.
T-S Realtionship
Teachers and students spend a lot of time together. That's why it is so important to have a good relationship. Teachers and students relationship should be friendly, but based on respect. The students always like the subject they are learning if they like the teacher who is giving the lesson, that's why the teacher should be friendly and nice with her students. Also, students always take their teaher as a model, so, the teacher must be a good model for her students , if she wants them to be clean, she has to be clean, if she wants thm to be friendly, she has to be friendly, and if she wants them to respect her, she must respect them.
Teachers' Responsibility
This is my first year as a teacher, where I was really so depressed after my first week at school, when the students were not like those whom I have read about during my courses at university. I always think that my students will be so calm, interactive, polite and clever. But having ony these kinds of students is just a dream! Students won't be interactive if they don't enjoy the lesson, neither polite if the teacher didn't know how to treat them. It's all about the teachers' responsibiliy! Teachers are responsible about the students and their behaviors, because students imitate her, she must be polite and respectful in order to have such students. If a teacher don't respect her students, they won't respect their friends nor her.
Tools to Use
Teaching has always been a complex process. But nowadays, a lot of tools and applications are available to facilitate the teachers' work. Teachers can use these tools in their classes, or online, to motivate their students and let them be more engaged in their learnings. From these tools, we can use Kahoot that is a game-based classroom response system in which we can, as teachers, create questions and quizzes for students in the form of a game, and by this way, students will be more interactive. Another example is the WordClouds , where we can ask a question for students as a brain storming, and the answers will be shown in a cloud of words based on the frequency of words.
